Mexico – beautiful, mysterious, enchanting. Arte Tradicional Mexicano offers a taste of this magnificent land through a diverse selection of traditional Mexican folk art, thoughtfully conceived and masterfully crafted by the hearts, minds, and hands of its many talented people. The items on the following pages represent the art and culture of many regions. Designed and produced by some of the top artists and artisans in their field, our collection embodies bold ideas and creative techniques that have survived for centuries, and been passed down through generations. There is a story to be told about many of the pieces presented here, and through a combination of fact and legend we include some of the history, culture, and character of the people, products, and areas represented. As you browse our site, you will find offerings from the Sierra Madre mountains of Jalisco and Nayarit, home of the legendary Huicholes and their unique and colorful bead-and-yarn creations; the cities of Tlaquepaque and Tonala, featuring Mexican pewter, exotically colored glass products, ceramics, and fixtures of all types; the north central region encompassing Morelia, Patzcuaro, and Uruapan, the home of Santa Clara copper, hand painted black lacquer gourds and wood products, and green ceramics; and the south central area in which Oaxaca and Chiapas are located, where small villages specialize in items unique to their location, such as wood folk art, colorful mask creations, and black pottery. There is perhaps no country in the world today that offers such a staggering array of indigenous art forms, and we hope the magic of Mexico will inspire you as it does us. Enjoy! ![]() |
